新竹市政府為肯定「暑期青年返鄉服務志工」志願服務社區，4日在市長林智堅見證下，214位隊員舉行宣誓、授證及授旗儀式，齊聲發願讓愛流動、照護兒童。林智堅也分享《牧羊少年奇幻之旅》故事，勉勵大家真心想完成事情時，無形中就會有貴人相助，別輕易放棄目標。
新竹市至愛服務協會創會長傅正泰說，響應市府打造幸福兒童城市，目前已召募214位青年學子成立「暑期青年返鄉服務志工隊」，包括國中至大學生，以實際行動展現熱忱，為社區弱勢孩童，辦理親近大自然的體驗營，建立人際關係與自信，其中不少青年從高中就加入，表現優異持續被遴選為營隊幹部。
林智堅回憶《牧羊少年奇幻之旅》一書，當牧羊少年尋找寶藏時，老國王對他說：「當你真心渴望某種東西時，整個宇宙都會聯合起來幫助你完成」，表示大家毫無所求，替家鄉無私奉獻時，不管至愛服務協會或市府，都會聯合起來，作青年志工最堅強後盾。
社會處表示，每年台灣寒暑假舉辦許多營隊，許多原住民及低收入戶單親家庭，因經濟弱勢幾乎沒機會參加，而村野兒童營隊，就是為弱勢原住民及弱勢家庭兒童開辦，內容全由214位返鄉青年志工精心規畫，成為現代青年學子的楷模。
「夢想不在他方，希望就在家鄉！」林智堅提到，從小生長的土地，有許多人和青年志工一樣，正一點一滴為新竹市注入正面能量，呼籲大家不要小看自己，任何言語、動作、或是陪伴，都可能成為孩子心中的希望種子。
